Tropical Island Luxury Yacht

So, this idea is fab!  I've always wanted to design a yacht and this would truely be a dream job!  How cool would it be to stay on one of these let alone design one.  Every last detail is an ideal luxury vacation including the private pool cabana huts and the extendable decks in the fold-out hatch coming out of the hull.  This boat is amazing, no matter how you look at it.  Super fun & Super cool!

I highly recommend checking out the link below as it has several other renderings and other themes too!

Aruban Architecture

Throughout the ages, homes have tended not only to be forms of shelter but also expressions of individualism. Aruba is no exception to this tendency. One of the oldest homes in Aruba was built from caliche which is a crusty calcium substance found in the southeast hills of the island, and still stands to this day. Slanting roofs found in many Aruban homes allowed the heat to rise while windows were kept small to keep in the cool.

In earlier days, stone walls were built without the use of mortar. Instead, coral rocks were placed to a perfect fit. Sadly this is a lost art although many such walls have withstood the test of time and remain intact to this day.

Although cement and concrete have replaced the older materials, contemporary design has retained many basic elements found in the traditional houses, while adding other features such as windows which became longer though still narrow and comprised wooden louvers, introduction of patios and brightly tiled roofs as well as elaborate ornamentation for roofs , balconies and entrances.

Willem III TowerThe oldest remnant of Dutch architecture is Fort Zoutman and the Willem III Tower which were completed in 1796. Fort Zoutman was named after a Dutch Rear Admiral who had outwitted a British convoy on the North Sea during the 4th British War, the tower is situated on what was then the shoreline and is armed with four cannons.

In 1868, the Willem III Tower was added to the Fort with Aruba's first public clock and served as a lighthouse equipped with a spire and petrol lamp. For almost a century from 1816, government offices were housed in Fort Zoutman, with a police department and a prison making use of the building at other times.

Today the buildings house the Museo Arubano which is a museum displaying many artifacts from Aruba’s earliest through those reminiscent of colonial times up to the present day.

How to Choose the Right Color for Your Room

Understanding the color wheel can be a little confusing at first but if you just remember back to elementary school art classes, it will come to you pretty easily.  I took color theory my first quarter in design school and it was one of my favorite classes.  I love color!  It can evoke moods and feelings and bring life to white walls everywhere.  You can bring color into a room with artwork, rugs, pillows, accessories while keeping your main pieces of furniture nuetral.  This makes it less expensive to switch things up in a room later on without having to redo the entire room.  This makes it a much more cost effective approach to design.  (which I love)  Remember one thing when you're painting... if it doesn't turn out right, you can always paint over it.  It's just paint.  No big deal if it doesn't work out the first time around!  Have fun and good luck!  :D

Welcome

Hi All!

So, this is my very first post.  You are probably here because you are interested in interior design and/or need some design help in your space.  Whatever the reason, I'm here to help.  I can offer design consulting advice, material and paint options, customer furniture design, drawings, almost anything!  This is a full service design consulting blog!

You can send me 3-4 pictures of your favorite possessions that you think represent your personality the most and I can give you ideas and color options for your space based on those 3 items.  Or, you can send me pictures of 3 items you want to use in the room and I can give you ideas based on those pieces.  I will make a material/color board for you with furniture selections as well if needed.

If you have any design questions, just ask!
I love to see before and after shots so please feel free to send them!
